Bell Creek Test Site Preinjection Geochemical Report

The Bell Creek demonstration storage project, carried out in partnership between the Energy & Environmental Research Center and Denbury Onshore LLC, was designed to determine the effect of a large-scale injection of CO2 into a deep clastic reservoir for the purpose of simultaneous CO2 enhanced oil recovery and monitoring incidental CO2 storage. This project provided an opportunity to conduct a detailed mineralogical and geochemical evaluation to support the project and gain a better understanding of how CO2 injection may affect relevant storing and sealing formations. To achieve this task, a series of rock and reservoir fluid samples were collected and analyzed in the laboratory from both injection and sealing formations, soil and groundwater samples were collected and analyzed from surface and shallow zones, and a literature review of existing mineralogical effects of CO2 injection was conducted.
