WE WELCOME SCRANTON HOLDING COMPANY TO THE PCOR PARTNERSHIP!

Founded in 2020 by CEO Jim Bougalis, Scranton Holding Company (SHC) is dedicated to strengthening U.S. industrial independence by reducing foreign dependency in the iron and steel industry. At the forefront of this mission is North American Iron (NAI)—SHC’s flagship subsidiary, leading the charge in supplying high-purity pig iron to American steelmakers. By reclaiming and recycling iron ore from mine waste, NAI is pioneering sustainable practices that fortify domestic manufacturing, enhance supply chain resilience, and create quality American jobs.

Alongside NAI, SHC’s subsidiary Calumet Reclamation Company acquires legacy mine tailing stockpiles—valuable sources of iron ore feedstock near Calumet, Minnesota. SHC’s current project utilizes mine waste from Minnesota’s Iron Range to produce low-carbon pig iron in central North Dakota. The mine waste is crushed, screened, and washed in Minnesota before being shipped to North Dakota, where NAI will produce pig iron for American foundries and steel plants that traditionally rely on imports.

NAI is also exploring the potential to use natural gas, extracting hydrogen to fuel the pig iron plant while sequestering the remaining carbon. By shifting to hydrogen-based iron production, the company aims to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 96% compared to traditional blast furnace methods—driving forward the future of American steelmaking with cleaner, more sustainable innovation.

“Scranton Holding Company is proud to join the PCOR Partnership as we work to strengthen America’s iron and steel industry through North American Iron and Calumet Reclamation Company. By prioritizing domestic resources, we reduce reliance on foreign imports and reinforce national security through a stable, American-first supply of high-quality pig iron. Our commitment to responsible resource recovery and low-carbon production aligns with the future of American manufacturing, ensuring our nation remains a leader in steel innovation and self-sufficiency.”
